Welcome to the Joycee in Jitpur site

What is it all about you ask – well it is raise awareness of the extremely poor living conditions in Nepal, and particularly the small villages in the area of Jitpur Phedi, Nepal.

So poor in fact that only 60% of families living in this marginalised area have access to a toilet.  This of course means that almost half of the village population of 5000 need to practice “open air” methods – quite a daunting thought for most of us when practiced on a permanent basis.

A fundraising project (August) carried out on behalf of Volunteers Initiative Nepal, www.volunteeringnepal.org was successful in raising almost $10,000. VIN's mission is to improve the lives of villages in Jitpur Phedi and other small communities in Nepal, which is one of the poorest countries in the world.

As the approximate cost of each toilet is $AUD400, and the amount raised means that prior to December 23 happy families will be the proud owners of a toilet attached to their homes.  What a fantastic New Year’s gift!

Thanks to 120 generous revellers who enjoyed had a fantastic party for a great cause in August, the goal of $10,000 was almost reached for the toilet construction project in Jitpurphedi, Nepal.    So close, so close!

The auctioning of 12 willing tradies was a huge success
All in all - a huge success with people (mainly cougars of course) asking to book tickets for the next Tradie night!  (Go to the Tradie for a Ladie site - see sidebar - to view photos).

This generosity of both the tradesmen and bidders has resulted in several international volunteers constructing toilets in the Village which has been heartening to witness first hand.  Digging of holes for septic tanks with nothing but a shovel is quite a task but the guys have attacked the task with enthusiasm - even though one, Louis, had to be lifted out of the hole!
